China's CNGOIC ups 2008-09 corn output estimates by 3.5 million tonnes
China National Grain and Oils Information Centre, a state-supported think-tank, has increased its output estimates for the country's major crops in 2009 from its previous report in July.
In a new report Wednesday (August 12), CNGOIC hiked its estimate for corn output by 3.5 million metric tonnes to 166.5 million tonnes on higher acreage, despite earlier floods and bad weather in the northeast major producing areas.
An official from the centre said so far the floods haven't had any concrete impact on corn growth.
