Pakistan chicken meat prices moving upward
Pakistan's provincial metropolis has registered an increase of PKR12 per kg (US$0.14) in the price of chicken meat in a single day.
Â
Chicken meat prices jumped to PKR192 per kg on Friday (Aug 7) from the previous day's PKR180, said market sources without citing any reasons.
Â
On the other hand, officials of the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) explained that the price increase is due to the hot and humid weather, which leads to a high mortality rate and a short supply of chicken.
Â
The price of chicken meat was PKR171 per kg on August 1. The market sources warned that prices might increase again in the next five to six months as the price of day-old chicks had nearly doubled in the past few weeks.
Â
The price of day-old chicks is around PKR52-53, up from the previous price of PKR25, said a local poultry farmer, who also warned that chicken prices could spike to PKR225 per kg.
