Hog demand stays weak in China while prices are mixed

Pork demand stayed weak in China with sales in major wholesale centres reducing by 1.78%, while prices were mixed in different regions.

Prices were mixed in different regions of China, with average prices ranging from 13.3RMB/kg in Jiangsu in East China, to a high of RMB14.29/kg in Guangdong in South China.

In the southern and central regions, where releases tightened, prices rose over the week. Meanwhile, abundant supplies of hog in north and eastern China dragged down prices amid lacklustre demand.

Pork demand is expected to stay soft in the coming week. Prices of hog will weaken, except in coastal regions where availability is decimated by typhoons and rainstorms.
