Most Thai poultry carcasses free from bird flu

The Livestock Development Department in Thailand confirms the majority of more than 40,000 samples of poultry carcasses tested are free from bird flu.

The department's deputy director general Chaweewan Liewwichak said they have extended its search for avian influenza for another month and the third time this year. About 30,000 of more than 40,000 samples of poultry carcasses and excrement tested for bird flu viruses yield negative results.

The authorities affirm no bird flu pandemic has been found in the country for 145 days since March 15 when they had last destroyed poultry suspicious of contracting avian influenza.
