China July pig exports total 140,000 heads
China exported 140,000 live pigs in July, according to preliminary data issued by the General Administration of Customs Friday (Aug 10).
The country exported a total of 930,000 pigs during the first seven months, down 4 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.
China has been suffering from a pork shortage since the start of this year due partly to an outbreak of
blue ear disease, and pork prices have surged as a result.
Shanghai JCI, a local consultancy, said in a recent research note that the country is likely to buy more pork from other countries after its recent import of between 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of pork.
