Pakistan to export seafood to EU again

Pakistan's government announced it had lifted the ban on seafood exports to the EU, following completion of work required to meet EU commodity standards. A letter was sent to the EU informing it about the decision.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has also been signed outlining the responsibilities of stakeholders in the seafood trade.

The government said the MOU was the standard operating procedure for issues such as handling of seafood cargo and maintenance of hygienic conditions.

In 2003-04, Pakistan earned US$52 million from the EU alone, out of a total US$156 million worth of seafood exports then.
