US egg output slips 1 percent on-year in June
US egg production in June totalled 7.36 billion, down 1 percent from the same period last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Table egg type layer numbers dropped by 2 percent on-year, while egg type hatching layers also slipped 2 percent.
6.24 billion table eggs were produced, while hatching eggs totalled 1.12 billion. Of the hatching eggs, broiler-type and egg-type accounted for 1.05 billion and 65 million respectively.
As of Jul 1, US layer numbers totalled 339 million, down 1 percent on-year. Of this total, 279 million layers produced table or market type eggs, 57 million layers produced broiler-type hatching eggs, and 2.75 million layers produced egg-type hatching eggs.
