Philippine 2007 feed wheat imports seen to drop by more than fifty percent

Philippine imports of feed wheat may go down by more than 50 percent this year from shipments of around 1 million tonnes last year due to high prices of the grain in the global market, an industry executive said Tuesday.

The executive said shipments from January to July this year totaled around 300,000 tonnes and its unlikely to exceed the 500,000-tonne level due to high prices.  He added additional imports will be in limited quantities.

Wheat and corn are major components of livestock and poultry feeds.
