China think tank cuts 2007 soybean output forecast on drought

China's grain think tank cut the country's soybean output forecast this year to 14.8 million tonnes because of an ongoing drought, according to its monthly report issued Wednesday (Aug 8).

The China National Grain and Oils Information Centre previously expected soybean output to be 15 million tonnes this year.

However, the centre is maintaining its 2007 corn output at 149 million tonnes, as better growing conditions in other areas can make up for the reduced production in drought areas.
