As part of its strategic plan to further consolidate the company's pork production activities, Vion Food Netherlands announced plans to close a pork production facility in the Netherlands.
Vion Food Boxtel will take over the activities of VION Food Helmond. The Helmond location will be closed. The change will affect the jobs of 130 of its own staff.
This decision is the result of Vion Food Group's new course which was announced on April 24, 2013. The change is part of the restructuring of food activities in the Netherlands and Germany. This efficiency measure is necessary to restore results on the highly competitive pork market.
Vion Food Netherlands produces and processes high-quality pork and beef products at nine production locations in the Netherlands. It supplies client-specific products and innovative concepts to retail, industrial and foodservice clients in the Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world.
The company has divested many of its holdings in the UK. Vion sold its UK red meat and poultry operations in March. The company closed both its Halls of Broxburn facility in Scotland and Welsh Country Foods, a lamb processing business in Wales. Vion also sold its UK pork operations in December 2012.
