Colombia reports FMD outbreak
Colombia's veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
Colombia sent the notification on Tuesday (Aug 4).
Colombian authorities had discovered FMD in a group of pigs at a local slaughterhouse of Ipiales in the southwestern state of Narino, which is five km from the border with Ecuador.
Authorities found nine pigs about six months old were infected, and all were culled. A group of 22 cattle with them showed no clinical signs of FMD.
Columbia had been clear of FMD since September 2008.
