German rapeseed harvest above expectations

Rapeseed harvesting has been completed in Germany with the exception of higher-elevation areas, and production in most regions is well above expectations, plant-breeding company Deutsche Saatveredelung AG, or DSV, said Wednesday (August 6).

Harvesting results in certain areas exceed 50 deciton per hectare, DSV said, adding that the oil content between 41 percent and 46 percent is at a very high level. One deciton equals one-10th of one tonne.

Certain tentative breeds see record harvest of up to 70 deciton per hectare, the company added.
