New Zealand provides new biosecurity manual for chicken farmers

New Zealand's Food Safety Authority and Poultry Industry Association have issued a new manual of biosecurity measures for chicken farmers, as part of a three-year strategy to cut down campylobacter levels in poultry meat.

The Broiler Growing Biosecurity Manual states minimum standards recommended for broiler production, covering areas such as shed construction, harvest and cleanout.

While the manual seeks to reduce campylobacter levels present during meat processing and packaging, there are still some concerns that the guidelines do not do enough to cut infection rates apart from freezing the chicken.
