Hong Kong bans poultry eggs from Taiwan's Hualien County
The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong announced on Monday (Jul 29) that an import ban on poultry eggs from Taiwan's Hualien County has come into effect.
The World Organization for Animal Health notified the centre that there have been outbreaks of low pathogenic H5N2 and H5N3 avian influenza detected on poultry farms there.
Poultry egg imports from Taiwan's Penghu County have been banned since November 23.
Hong Kong imports a small amount of poultry eggs from Taiwan, but no live poultry or poultry meat. From January to May, about 1.6 million poultry eggs have been imported into Hong Kong from Taiwan.
