Brazilian poultry and beef exports show signs of recovery

 


Brazilian exports of beef and poultry showed recovery both in volume and in price in July 2010, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.


Revenues from sales of fresh beef rose by 46.8% over 2009 to US$407.8 million from US$277.7 million. In July 2010, the sale of beef products has generated revenues of US$384.2 million. Sales totalled 101,700 tonnes, 23.9% more than in July 2009.


Sales of fresh chicken meat increased by 12.2% in volume from 288,800 tonnes in 2009 to 324,100 tonnes last month. This is a rise of 5.5% from June 2010, when 307,300 tonnes were shipped.


Revenue increased 21.2% compared to July last year from US$448.4 million to US$543.4 million.


The average price of chicken meat exported was US$1,676 per tonne in July 2010, 8% higher than in 2009 (US$1,552) and 1.2% higher in comparison with June 2010 at US$1,656.


Unlike other proteins, fresh pork had a weaker performance in the export market. Brazil shipped 38,200 tonnes in July 2010, down 9.5% compared to July 2009, when 42,200 tonnes were sold, and 7.5% less than June 2010.
