Uganda seen to shut down abattoirs over hygiene issues
Uganda's Kampala City Council (KCC) may close down what the leaders of city council have termed as substandard abattoirs in the district, according to a report.
There are five abattoirs which may have its doors shut in the city.
Ruth Kijjambu, the Town Clerk of Kampala, has stated that the abattoirs may be shut because they do not meet the required standards of cleanliness.
According to Kijjambu, KCC Health team made rounds at a number of the abattoirs recently and discovered that the standards of hygiene need improvement.
He further stated that the abattoirs have been given leeway of seven days to better the hygiene situation or face closure.
Names of the affected abattoirs have not been disclosed.
