Ukraine to start meat exports to EU in October

The Ukrainian producers will be able to start exporting meat and poultry products to the EU starting October 2009.

The EU inspectors, who inspected the meat and poultry farms and production facilities, have criticised the quality and safety control system of the meat and poultry production in Ukraine.

However, chances of the Ukrainian producers getting to the EU market are very high. Experts noted that the EU is reducing subsidies to their producers and is interested in the supplies from Ukraine.

According to the preliminary report of the EU inspectors, the Ukrainian control system of meat production does not exactly meet the requirements of the EU, but it could be improved by October 2009, according to guarantees afforded by the Ukrainian partners.

In mid July 2009, EU inspectors carried out inspection of the system of quality and safety control of the Ukrainian meat and poultry producers, hoping to supply meat to the biggest EU market in the world.
