Argentina's chicken meat exports surge for first half 2005

Argentina's chicken meat exports surged 61 percent and 68 percent in volume and value respectively for the first half of this year, compared with the same period the previous year.

In 2004, Argentine chicken exports to China grew by 71 percent to 18,734 tonnes, following the Chinese ban on Thai, US and Canadian poultry due to bird flu outbreaks in those countries. Argentina's share of broiler exports to China rose from 1 percent for January to November 2003, to 25.8 percent for the same period in 2004.
