Murray's Chicken shut by USDA

A Sullivan County poultry processing plant, Murray's Chicken, have been closed by US federal officials with food safety issues cited.

Murray's Chicken was told to close its doors by the USDA; however, more details concerning the closure have not been made apparent.

Prior to this incident, Murray's Chicken had been made aware of the Agriculture Department's concern around the plant's "capacity to control contaminants". However, the plant's vice president, Steve Murray, stated that it passed a test for salmonella in July this year.

The US poultry plant processes 35,000 chickens daily.
