Monsanto breaks ground on grain breeding facility in Indiana
Monsanto broke ground Wednesday (Aug 2) for the construction of a new facility in Evansville, Indiana.
The site would house Monsanto's corn and soybean breeding groups, and its corn pathology and soybean trait integration groups. These would be responsible for developing and testing new corn lines and hybrids and soybean varieties, a statement said.
Company site leader Kendell Hellewell said the facility would be an important hub for Monsanto's breeding research.
The site would replace the company's Haubstadt facility.
A 24,000-square-foot building would contain office and lab space, and a secondary 13,000-square-foot building would contain equipment and storage space.
The buildings are scheduled to be completed March, 2007.
