Mexico will not impose taxes on US chicken imports
Mexico will not implement tariffs on chicken leg quarter imports from the US, as the recent avian influenza outbreak in Jalisco state led to a rising price of both corn and Mexican staple foods.
Up to six million poultry have been slaughtered to-date, but this number could increase to further control the avian flu outbreak.
The Mexican Ministry of Economy will continue to support domestic poultry producers and promote commercial market integration between Mexico and the US .
The COCEX, composed of several Mexican government representatives, noted that it would monitor market conditions and would re-evaluate the anti-dumping duties at a later date.
This week, UTPI announced its final determination in the anti-dumping investigation of US chicken leg quarters, and is expected to publish it next week.
