Degussa's new methionine plant to start by year-end
After more than one-and-half years of construction, Degussa's new DL-methionine plant at Anthwerp, Belgium is nearing completion, with production expected to start by this year.
The plant is the company's second world-scale facility at Antwerp and is set to increase Degussa's global methionine production to 350,000 tonnes a year. Both Antwerp plants have a combined annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes.
Annual production capacity at the new plant has actually been scaled down from 150,000 to 120,000 tonnes. Also, production at the older 80,000-tonne per annum plant will be halted, although this may restart to meet higher global demand, if necessary.
