Keenan opens its new manufacturing centre

Ireland's animal health firm Keenan Rumans has opened its new GBP 5.6 million (US$11.34 million) Manufacturing Centre at its headquarters in Borris, County Carlow. The centre--which was officially opened by EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy-- will conduct research in technology, engineering and animal nutrition.

Keenan executives say its Animal Nutrition System can help the environmental problems in Ireland as it has potential reductions in methane emissions of 20 percent and a significant improvement in farm performance of up to 40 percent in current net margins. This is the equivalent of taking 425,000 cars - or 25 percent of Ireland's cars - off the road for a year.

McCreevy said the centre will help sustain food production in Ireland improve animal nutrition as well as support Ireland's green "food island" image in tackling global warming.
