Tyson Foods cuts pork production at six plants

US meat giant Tyson Foods has announced that it will reduce pork production at its six major pork plants.

The company is reducing three work shifts this week for the six plants to cut production. The steps were taken due to unfavourable market conditions, Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said.

Declining pork sales and higher hog costs has affected the profitability of this segment, Mickelson said.

Tyson is the second largest pork producer in the US, behind Smithfield Foods.
