Sri Lanka's President has directed the country's Legal Draftsman's Department to draft the necessary legislation against the slaughter of cattle in the country.
According to the report, the drafting of the legislation is expected to be finalised within the next two months.
Meanwhile, the Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry has been instructed to import beef.
A Sinhalese Buddhist movement, the Sihala Ravaya has been campaigning for the banning of cattle slaughter in the country and the President last month assured the monks that steps would be taken to ban cattle slaughter in the country within the next two months.
In May this year a Buddhist monk of the Sinhala Ravaya organisation self-immolated to protest cattle slaughter.
