Kemin's KemTRACE brand Chromium Propionate approved for cattle

Press Release

Kemin Industries announced the US Food & Drug Administration has approved KemTRACE brand Chromium Propionate for use in cattle.

The approval will provide dairy and beef producers a new tool to optimise transition cow management, said Dr. Fernando Valdez, Director of Technical Services for Kemin AgriFoods North America.

KemTRACE Chromium Propionate is also approved for use in all classes of swine in the US, as well as for growing and finishing swine in Canada.  In addition, it is available for both swine and dairy cattle in Mexico.

KemTRACE Chromium Propionate is the only chromium source currently approved by the FDA for use in cattle. KemTRACE Chromium Propionate contains chromium propionate, a patented product from Kemin Industries Inc. which provides a highly bioavailable organic source of chromium.

Chromium Propionate helps cattle to utilise energy efficiently, and the primary role of chromium is to potentiate the action of insulin. Increased insulin activity promotes intracellular glucose uptake, which will make more energy available to the animal and the animal is better able to utilize its energy efficiently.
