Argentina's May corn exports up 90 percent; wheat down 9 percent
Argentina exported 2,153,950 tonnes of corn in May, up 90 percent from the 1,130,736 tonnes shipped in May 2006, the latest Agriculture Secretariat data show.
Algeria was the leading importer of Argentine corn in May, buying 296,907 tonnes, and Malaysia imported 271,380 tonnes. Egypt, Peru and Portugal were also major buyers.
Argentina also exported 688,093 tonnes of wheat in May, down 9 percent from the 758,732 tonnes shipped during the same month a year earlier.
Brazil was by far the leading importer of Argentine wheat in May, purchasing 556,463 tonnes.
