China's grain stock capacity reaches 300 million tonnes

China's State Administration of Grain said that the country's grain stock capacity totalled 300 million tonnes as of 2013, 100 times larger than that of 1949 when the country was founded, People's Daily reported.

Director of the State Administration of Grain, Ren Zhengxiao said that in 2013, China's grain storage companies totalled about 19,000 with a collective storage capacity of over 300 million tonnes.

Ren also mentioned that China has upgraded the storage network, with 78% of granaries installed with mechanical ventilation and 57% monitored by computers.

China's grain storage network is concentrated on four logistics hubs in Liaoning, Guangdong, Shanghai and Zhejiang, while national granaries are dispersed all around the country.

China has a long history of its grain reserve policy. The country reserves important crops as a measure to ensure self-sufficiency and food security.
