Agropur Cooperative has reached an agreement to buy British Columbia's Coast Mountain Dairy, an important ice cream producer in Chilliwack, as of August 1, 2013.

Coast Mountain Dairy has been producing ice cream since 1997 and is the maker of Sara's old fashioned premium ice cream, Mountain Pride premium line of ice creams and Arctic Star, the economy line of ice cream and frozen desserts.

"We are very pleased with this acquisition," said Agropur CEO, Robert Coallier. Coast Mountain Dairy is very well known in Chilliwack. "The acquisition sees us add quality frozen products to our Island Farms selection, as well as continue to offer clients locally produced superior ice cream products and expand Agropur's offering in this sector of activities in British-Columbia," concluded Robert Coallier.

Agropur is an important player in the North American dairy industry. With sales of US$3.8 billion, the Cooperative is a source of pride for its 3,400 dairy producer owners and 6,000 employees. It processes more than 3.3 billion litres of milk annually in its 28 plants across Canada and the US.
