China's 2012 cotton crops seen in better condition

China's cotton plantings are on a much better state as compared with on-year due to favourable weather conditions in major growing areas, based on recent data from the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science.

The period from late July to August is crucial for the cotton crop's development.

The China Cotton Association earlier predicted that the country's cotton planting area would drop 9.2% on-year in 2012 as persistent declines of cotton prices had discouraged farmers from planting.

The unit cotton yield this year is expected to rise slightly over last year thanks to normal weather conditions in major producing areas, results of a survey by the National Cotton Market Monitoring System show.
