Canadian firms recall meat products over suspected listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has reported a recall of two brands of deli meat sold across Canada due to possible listeria contamination.

Freybe Gourmet Foods of Langley, British Columbia said its Freybe Ham Suelze has been recalled from stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario whereas the recall of listeria-tainted deli meats produced by Dats Deli Europeen, a Montreal company, has expanded.

The company has now voluntarily recalled 29 items from store shelves in Quebec and Ontario due to the food-borne bacteria. The latest products include: Dats Deli Europeen Liverwurst Sausage, Head Cheese, Old Fashioned Smoked Ham, Mock Chicken, Karnatzlach Appetizers, Smoked Boneless Ham Extra Lean, All Beef Salami, All Beef Deli Dogs, Kielbasa Polska Sausage, Meat Loaf European Style, Garlic Salami, Smoked Turkey, Smoked Meat Pastrami, All Beef Salami, and Le Biftheque-brand All Beef Salami.

Freybe recalled its headcheese last week over concerns of salmonella contamination. There have been no illnesses linked to either meat recalls.
