South Africa 2008-09 corn crop forecast unchanged
The estimate for South African corn production this season remains unchanged at 11.6 million tonnes, the Crop Estimates Committee said Tuesday (July 28).
White corn output for the 2008/09 season is forecast to reach 6.8 million tonnes and yellow corn forecast at 4.8 million tonnes, the committee said.
The CEC said also has left the area estimated for white and yellow corn crops unchanged at 1.489 million hectares and 938,500 hectares respectively.
The CEC's sixth summer forecast was expected to have increased by about 174,000 tonnes, or 1.5 percent, from last month's estimate, according to an I-Net Bridge poll of four traders.
"We did not have additional information to change the yields," CEC member Rodney Dredge said. "We are confident on the area estimate, but we do not have enough information to change the yields."
