India government not planning to ban soymeal exports

India's federal government isn't considering a ban on soymeal exports, a senior government official said Tuesday (July 28).

"I am not aware of any such proposal," R.S Gujral, director general of foreign trade told reporters.

Soybean Processors Association of India on Monday said the association had requested the government not to impose any ban on soymeal exports following some talks regarding it in the market.

India exports 75 to 80 percent of its soymeal production.

Gujral also said he has received a communication regarding the extension of the deadline for duty-free raw sugar imports and will take a few more days to issue a formal notification on it.

Farm minister Sharad Pawar had earlier said the government will extend the deadline for duty-free raw sugar imports beyond July 31.
