Study forecasts possible expansion of China's corn planting area
China's corn planting area may be added by 461,000 square kilometres as the corn production would extend northward given a warmer weather in the future, according to a study conducted by the Lanzhou University.
The study results were released in an international conference on eco-system assessment and management held in Lanzhou, the capital city of China's northwestern Gansu province, during July 20 to July 25.
The study, based on a prospect of global warming, is to assess the consequence of climate change on the corn planting in China. It has proven that the future climate change could be a positive boost to the country's corn production as the plating area might witness a considerable expansion.
