Vietnamese seafood exports up 17% in H1 2010
 

 

Vietnam gained US$2 billion from 597,800 tonnes of seafood exports to 143 different locations worldwide in the first half of 2010, up 17% on-year in both value and volume.

 

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), EU bloc remained the largest market for Vietnamese seafood with 164,000 tonnes worth US$502 million, without giving any comparative figures.

 

In the first six months of 2010, shrimp surpassed tra fish to become the largest export staple of Vietnamese seafood with revenues of more than US$718 million, up 21.9% on-year.Tra fish exports rose 11.6% to US$640 million during the period.

 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Statistics and Informatics Center forecast that Vietnam's total seafood export revenues will grow 13.5% on-year to US$4.82 billion, from exporting more than 1.35 million tonnes of seafood in 2010.
