Chinese farmers turn to free-range pigs for better pork

In order to produce better tasting pork, some Chinese farmers are now raising pigs in a free way.

In the pig farm of the Dongxing Village of the Yinjiang Town of Yinzhou, some 2,000 pigs are raised freely in the farm. The feeders say their pigs spend over six hours outdoors per day. In addition, the pig can listen to music and eat natural fodder, growing up in a natural way.

Qiu Jianming, GM of Huandao Agriculture Development Co, says: "As the pigs are growing up in the wild, the pork will not contain any hormones. So it needs longer period to grow up."

The pork of the pigs raised this way costs much higher, at about RMB50 (US$7.38) per kilogramme, which is about twice that of ordinary pork in the market.
