Ukraine poultry production to grow 47 percent
Ukraine's poultry production is expected to grow by 47 percent between 2009 and 2013, according to the Ukraine Agribusiness Report Q3 2009.
Ukraine was once the bread basket of Europe, but agriculture there had collapsed alongside the Soviet Union. However, some sectors are recovering, including the chicken industry.
Despite the recession, growth is still expected partly because of chicken's price advantage over other meats, which will continue to attract consumers. Also, profitable firms account for more than 70 percent of production, the report said.
