Norway will not issue new salmon licenses in 2010
The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries may not issue new salmon licenses in 2010.
According to a report from FishFarmingXpert, further increase in salmon production should be according to sustainable aquaculture and the increase will need more time to develop the goals in an overall sustainability strategy.
As long as there are fish health problems, interaction between wild stocks and farmed salmon, escaping, questionable use of feed resources and increasing conflicts in use of the shore line, the directorate recommends the political authorities to halt the increase in salmon production, concludes the report.
