India seafood exporters advised to buy raw materials from registered farms
Seafood exporters in India were told to buy only from registered aqua farms to meet the rigorous quality requirements of importers in the European Union and the US and to ensure there are no antibiotic residues, said Leena Nair, Chairperson of the Marine Products Export Development Authority of India (MPEDA).
She said the MPEDA would set up laboratories to test the samples procured from registered farms and exporters on their part should ensure that they buy only from the registered farms.
Nair said traceability is a critical issue and the Seafood Exporters' Association of India, the MPEDA, and the Fisheries Departments of different coastal States should work in tandem to promote export of quality seafood complying with the stringent norms of the European Union.
