Pakistan poultry group demands subsidies
The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has demanded the government to allow 25 percent freight subsidy for poultry exports on all airlines.
Freight subsidy is currently given to only PIA flights, which is insufficient, according to central chairman of PPA, Abdul Basit, in a letter to Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
The letter also recommended a flat rebate of 40 percent should be allowed on all poultry exports, as it was difficult to calculate duty drawbacks and taxes, especially when the producers of inputs were different entities such as poultry feed, vaccines and medicines.
Abdul Basit stressed the need to charge all poultry operations under the agricultural power tariff since poultry farming and breeding operations are part of agriculture.
The poultry sector should be exempted from sales tax on electricity bill as it is a food production sector, which is exempted from payment of sales tax, he said.
