Ireland's pig prices fall by 18 cents

 

 

Despite the recovery of prices of pigs in Ireland by 4 cents per kilogramme (/kg), the price is 18 cents behind the EU-25 average, according to Irish Farmers' Association (IFA). 

 

Sow production is down more than 7 percent on the 2006 year to date figure, but slaughter are on a par with last year.

 

The price range at export stays at 128 to 136 cent per kg while welfare bonus ranges from 2 to 6 cents. Pork slaughter is pegged from 132 to 138 cents while IFA estimates that other markets are selling 32 kg weaners are ranged from 48 to 52 euros. Sow prices staying at 20 to 26 euros per hundredweight (cwt) liveweight.

 

According to IFA, average pig prices are now at 128 cents in Ireland and 146 cents in the EU-25.
