India likely to float new wheat import tender

India, which has tendered for nearly 3.5 million tonnes of wheat this year, is likely to float a fresh wheat import tender soon, a senior government official said on Wednesday (Jul 27).

The timing of the tender and volume of grain to be sought were yet to be finalised, he said.

Traders said bids could be invited for up to 400,000 tonnes but the State Trading Corporation, which is doing the wheat purchasing on behalf of the state, might go for higher volumes, depending on the offers.
