Mexico resumes imports of Uruguayan beef

Mexico has lifted its 3-year-old ban on Uruguayan refrigerated boneless and matured beef, the World Beef Report said.

Mexico imposed the ban due to outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD). While the country has traditionally only allowed beef from countries with FMD-free status, Uruguayan beef has been cleared to enter Mexico.

Uruguayan beef would be exported to Mexico without a quota limit and its 8 percent tariff, would be lowered to 7 percent in accordance with the Mexico¨CUruguay free trade agreement.
