Indonesia to up wheat flour imports by 43 percent
Despite being one of world's major producers of wheat flour, Indonesia is most likely to increase its wheat flour imports by 43 percent to 700,000 tonnes annually, according to the Association of Indonesian Wheat Flour Producers chairman Franciscus Welirang on Jul 26.
As it is, wheat flour imports had jumped to 180,000 tonnes in the first three months of 2005, up 70 percent from the same period of last year.
Welirang also said that with increasing imports, Indonesia could become the world's largest or second largest importer of wheat flour.
The current wheat flour world trade stands at 4.6 million tonnes annually.
