Taiwan creates world's first fish ID
Taiwanese aquaculture firms and five local universities have created the world's first fish ID system.
Though adding serial numbers as a form of ID has been used on flowers and agricultural products, Taiwan is the first to apply it to aquaculture products.
The system will be actively promoted among domestic aquaculture industry, with the cobia being the first fish in Taiwan to come with an ID card detailing its history, to assure consumers of its quality.
The ID system has gained recognition by Taiwan's GAP and the EU's HACCP and was completed by Tianhe Marine Company, together with National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Ocean University, Pingdong University of Technology, Zhongshan University and the Penghu Institute of Technology.
