Reoccurrence of FMD detected in Korea: OIE
An outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has occurred in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea, potentially affecting 1,500 pigs, the World Organisation for Animal Health reports.
The information was received by the OIE on July 24 from Dr. TaeYung Kim, Director General, Livestock Policy Bureau, Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Korea.
The date of the reoccurrence of FMD was reported to be on July 23, with the previous occurrence of the disease recorded on April 22, 2011. Three cases were identified in swine, resulting in 1,500 pigs becoming susceptible. The source of the outbreak was unknown.
Control measures, amongst others, included the destruction of the infected pigs, quarantine and vaccination.
