Russia's grains, leguminous crop plantings up 1.7%
Compared to last year, the Russian Federation planted grains and leguminous crops for the harvest 2012 throughout the areas of 44.9 million hectares, an increase of 0.7 million hectares or up 1.7%, reported the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on July 18.
However, the planted areas of wheat decreased by 3.6% (or 0.9 million hectares).
In 2012, agrarians of Russia planted sunflower seed throughout 6.5 million hectares, or down 14.3% compared to last year.
The major part of the agricultural crops areas is located in agricultural organisations, where agrarians planted grains and leguminous crops throughout 72.6% of the general area, sunflower seed - 67.5%.
In the peasant (farming) enterprises the share of grain and leguminous crops areas totalled 26.2%, and sunflower seed -32.1%.
