Vietnam province succeeds salmon project, spawns more farms
An initial project to culture salmon in Vietnam's central Lam Dong province has yielded good results and spawned more breeding farms, according to a local agriculture official.
The fish were raised in rafts at Tuyen Lam, Da Thien, and Suoi Vang lakes in Dalat, Quang Hiep lake 40 kilometers southeast of the city, and other lakes in the remote Hiep Thanh commune. The project's success has aquaculture companies to breed salmon in the province.
Huynh Duc Hoa, head of the province people's committee, said the fish weighed 1.2 kilograms on average and yield per hectare of pond was 30 tonnes.
The project was undertaken by the Aquaculture Research Institute and local scientists.
