Cold storage vital for expanding US meat exports to China
The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has recently launched its "cold chain project" in China, in a bid to expand US meat exports to the country.
The project seeks to ensure that US meat exports would be distributed, transported and stored at the correct temperature, and build customer confidence through safety practices and appropriate handling methods.
Project funding came from the US Department of Agriculture, while the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council was also a participant.
USMEF would tap on the expertise of the World Food Logistics Organization to implement this project in selected regions of China, Central and South America, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, this year's US pork exports to China, from January to May, were up 32 percent year-on-year to 36,305 tonnes, worth US$42.4 million.
