KC Joseph, the Minister of Rural Development for the state of Kerala, India, announced plans to invest US$13.42 million to build two dairy plants.
The announcement was made at the opening of a new ice cream plant in Peringalam, Kerala.
The two new facilities will be established in Sreekandapuram and Kuttippuram. The government has already finalised 15 acres of land for the facility in Sreekandapuram.
Government agency, Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), will identify 10 acres of land for the Kuttippuram-based facility.
Joseph said that the efforts by Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), the state government and the Animal Husbandry Department can help improve the state's overall milk production in a two-year period.
